General Electric’s flight department was expected to move this month into its new 100,000-sq-ft hangar/office complex on 12 acres at Stewart International Airport in Newburgh, N.Y., about 50 mi north of Manhattan. GE was basing its six business jets and two helicopters at Westchester County Airport in White Plains, N.Y., but was unable to negotiate a hangar deal there, partly because of local citizens’ groups’ resistance to operating its pair of Boeing Business Jets at the noise-sensitive airport.
