For all pilots and other crewmembers who have ever struggled across a windswept ramp loaded down with cabin supplies, Jet Systems/Avitat at Westchester County Airport (HPN), White Plains, N.Y., developed its “Galley Direct” van. The newest version of the van, delivered last month to the FBO, is stocked with snacks, soft drinks, bar supplies, first-aid materials and whatever else pilots indicate they need to restock business jet cabins on the road. Developed at a cost of some $100,000, the Galley Direct van delivers the supplies to the airstair door on the ramp, saving time, hassle and effort on the part of the crew. “We figure we’ll save the pilots something like 4,000 steps per visit to our facility,” said Jet Systems president Mike Dolphin, himself a veteran corporate pilot. Jet Systems sells the supplies at its cost as a convenience to the crew and passengers.
