Honeywell’s AS907 engine completed certification by Europe’s Joint Aviation Authorities on December 3. The first production turbofans were to be delivered to Bombardier by year-end for installation on its new Challenger 300 (formerly the Continental), which is set to enter service early this year.

The AS900 series of engines (which also includes the AS977 version developed for the now-defunct BAE Systems Avro RJX regional jet) has accumulated more than 22,000 test hours, and Honeywell expects to have logged a further 3,000 hr by the time it enters service. With a 43.2-in. fan and a 4.2:1 bypass ratio, the AS907 is flat-rated to 6,500 lb of takeoff thrust and will enter service approved for on-condition maintenance.

Bombardier has flight tested 10 of the engines during the Challenger 300 certification process, logging 2,500 engine flight-test hours in the process. Honeywell has used eight engines for its certification, and five engines will continue to be tested into next year to support service-entry work.
