The new build standard of the International Aero Engines V2500 engine for the Airbus A319/320/321 family remains on schedule to meet FAR 33 engine certification by the end of the year, the company announced Saturday. Known as SelectOne, the improved engine promises to reduce fuel burn by 1 percent, improve time-on-wing by 20 percent and reduce workshop visits by 40 percent, at the same time meeting stringent CAEP/6 Nox.

Three SelectOne engines participate in the test program. After ground tests of 175 hours and 250 cycles, engineers mounted one engine on the inner pylon of a Boeing 747 testbed, for seven flights totaling 45 hours.

A second engine has undergone telemetry tests to verify the reduction in stresses in the high-pressure compressor blades, and the temperatures and pressures in the high-pressure turbine. The third engine is with the FAA undergoing endurance testing in Florida. Following FAR 33 certification the engine will be tested on an Airbus, before entering service with Indian low-cost carrier IndiGo in the second half of next year.
