Development of the 10-passenger, single-turboprop S-22 by agplane builder Air Tractor of Olney, Texas, slowed last year due to the company’s focus on providing a highly modified version of its AT-802 to the U.S. government for drug crop eradication in Colombia, according to Kristin Snow, communications director and daughter of founder and president Leland Snow. “It’s still a project, but delayed a couple of years,” she said, adding that parts for an S-22 prototype are being built. But that’s all she’d say. “Leland doesn’t like to make promises before he knows he can keep them,” she explained. In August 2001, however, the company had announced that the Department of Interior’s Office of Aircraft Services had contracted to buy the first Snow S-22 Surveyor, with a projected delivery of summer 2004. A potential purchase of up to 15 aircraft was postulated. Powered by a single Pratt & Whitney Canada PT6A, the amphibious airplane has been in development since 2000.
