For all those who have struggled to locate the Mercury Air Centers FBO at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX)–both airside and streetside–relief is at hand. Mercury has moved its operation at LAX to a new, larger site that encompasses more than 15 acres at the midfield point on the south side of the airport. According to Mercury, the new location is much more easily accessible from both the I-105 Freeway and Sepulveda Boulevard. To further enhance the L.A. experience for its customers, Mercury plans to build a new 11,500-sq-ft terminal on the site with construction beginning this fall and expected to take 18 months. The existing 5,500-sq-ft terminal building has been refurbished and will provide temporary accommodations. The new Mercury terminal will provide 10 acres of ramp space; meeting and conference rooms; courtesy transportation to airline terminals; on-site rental cars; hotel arrangements; event reservations; and gourmet catering. The design includes a customer lounge with airport views; an observation platform; a flight-planning center; a pilots’ lounge with separate retreat area; a conference room; private business offices with telephones; and a Starbucks coffee bar. Customers will also have access to high-speed wireless Internet connections throughout the building.
