The facilities of Flight International, one of two FBOs at Williamsburg International Airport in Newport News, Va., have become the 20th Mercury Air Centers operation. After processing a request for proposals, the airport authority awarded Mercury a 20-year FBO contract. Flight International, whose aircraft maintenance operation will continue as a Mercury tenant, did not respond to the RFP. General manager Wayne Gains and his staff of nearly 20 people will be retained, according to a Mercury spokesman. He added that Mercury at Newport News will offer Chevron fuel exclusively, as it does at its other 19 locations. Mercury plans to begin building a new terminal this summer, expecting it to be completed before winter next year. The 5,000-sq-ft terminal will include all the usual FBO amenities in addition to the FBO chain’s distinctive items, such as Starbucks Coffee, Otis Spunkmeyer cookies and Hertz rental cars.
