The Government Accountability Office (GAO) has studied the predicted impact of very light jets and found that FAA and industry experts have few concerns. “Most experts GAO contacted believe that very light jets will likely have little impact on safety due to the FAA’s certification procedures for aircraft, pilots and maintenance,” the agency noted. The report studied VLJ market forecasts and delivery factors; their effect on the national airspace system; how the FAA will handle them as they enter service; and how VLJs will affect FAA costs and Airport and Airway Trust Fund revenues. The GAO concluded it is too early to tell whether VLJs will affect trust fund revenues.
