The German government’s Federal Office of Defense Technology and Procurement (BWB) has named Lufthansa Technik AG the prime contractor for modernization of the medium-range fleet of the Ministry of Defense’s Special Mission Wing. The BWB has been negotiating contractual terms with Lufthansa for the procurement, completion and technical support of two Airbus A319 Corporate Jetliners and four Bombardier Global 5000s.
The Global 5000s will be outfitted at Bombardier’s completion center in Montreal and at its service center in Tucson, Ariz. Lufthansa’s Bombardier Aviation Services in Berlin will provide technical support for the jets.
The six aircraft will replace the German government’s fleet of Challenger 601s, starting in 2010, when the two 48-seat A319s will be delivered following their completion in Hamburg. Delivery of all four 12-seat Global 5000s is set for the following year.
Lufthansa Technik AG is exhibiting at NBAA at Booth No. 6751.
