Spectrum Aeronautical will unveil a conceptual mockup of the stand-up cabin S-40 interior at its booth tomorrow at the NBAA Convention in Atlanta. Meanwhile, the start-up aircraft manufacturer continues to develop its all-composite S-40 medium and S-33 light jets at its recently expanded Spanish Fork, Utah facility. Spectrum remains on track to certify the S-40 Freedom by 2010 and the S-33 Independence thereafter. Addressing book sales, Spectrum chairman Linden Blue told AIN, “We have sold out far more than we can produce in the first two years. We really have all we want at this point.” Spectrum had announced earlier this year that it was reversing the target dates for the S-40 and S-33 development programs to take advantage of what the company perceives as a more lucrative and less competitive market for all-composite medium business jets. Blue said the S-40’s GE Honda turbofan engine is expected to fly later this year aboard a Cessna Citation testbed and is on track to be certified by 2009.
