Clearwater, Fla. instrument manufacturer Aerosonic bought Op Technologies, a Beaverton, Ore. manufacturer of glass cockpit avionics suites. The move is a perfect fit, said Aerosonic executive v-p Mark Perkins, “because we were headed down the path of developing our own glass display products. This allowed us to take several years off the development cycle. It fills a hole in our product line.” Op Technologies president Dexter Turner is joining Aerosonic, along with many Op Technologies engineers and manufacturing personnel. Aerosonic is moving ahead to certify Op’s glass cockpit, and FAA approval could occur in about six months.
