After a year-and-a-half court battle, maintenance-tracking provider Camp Systems International and Gulfstream Aerospace signed a cross-licensing agreement that finally settles the dispute. Under the agreement, Gulfstream will permit Camp to use Gulfstream’s maintenance manuals on a non-exclusive worldwide basis for 15 years. As part of the agreement, Camp will give Gulfstream access to maintenance and reliability data for the Gulfstream fleet tracked by Camp’s Web-based tracking system. The dispute arose after Gulfstream sued Camp in April 2006 for copyright and trademark infringement, for using Gulfstream maintenance manuals in Camp’s tracking business. Camp won the case, but Gulfstream petitioned the court to reconsider and lost, then appealed and lost again. Now the two companies have reached an agreement that allows Camp to use Gulfstream’s copyrighted material, although neither company would say if any money was exchanged. “Camp is pleased with our agreement with Gulfstream,” said Camp CEO Ken Gray.
