When last year’s Latin American Business Aviation Conference & Exhibition (LABACE) in São Paulo, Brazil, was canceled, questions arose about the future of the show. At LABACE 2007, which ended a three-day run on August 11, there was no shortage of champagne celebrating the record-breaking event. According to Brasileira de Aviacao Geral president Rui Thomaz de Aquino, who now has responsibility for the show, a record 6,041 attendees passed through the gate. The 71 exhibitors and 35 aircraft on display were also record numbers. And, Aquino noted, preliminary estimates are that aircraft manufacturer orders taken at the show totaled more than $200 million, well over the forecast of about $150 million. To highlight the show, Brazilian manufacturer Embraer flew in its new Phenom 100 for the VLJ’s first public introduction and a champagne christening.
