In a guest column in the Martinsburg Journal, Sen. Jay Rockefeller (D-W.Va.) expressed optimism about the Sino Swearingen SJ30 jet program. Sino Swearingen’s Martinsburg factory builds the wings and fuselage for the SJ30 and ships them to the company’s headquarters in San Antonio for final assembly. Recent news reports indicate that Sino Swearingen has reduced the size of the Martinsburg workforce, and the company has yet to deliver its second SJ30. In his column Rockefeller wrote, “Sino hasn’t delivered on all the jobs it promised. The company hasn’t been managed as well as it should have been, and it has at times let down its employees and people like me, who really believe in the company and its product.” According to Rockefeller, Sino Swearingen, majority owned by the Taiwanese government, “is developing a new business plan to get to full production. They are being pursued by several multinational investor groups that are interested in being a part of Sino’s future.” A spokesman for Sino Swearingen confirmed the statement.
