On Sunday at EAA AirVenture Honeywell’s Bendix/King division unveiled two new products that are designed to win back market share from rival Garmin. The Bendix/King KSN 770 is a GPS WAAS navigator with integrated VHF navcom radios, joystick cursor controller and 5.7-inch-diagonal VGA display. Reminiscent of Garmin’s GNS 530W navigator, the Bendix/King product incorporates features borrowed from higher-end Honeywell avionics including the INAV flight planning interface. Though a price has yet to be set, a spokesman said the KSN 770 will be “competitive” with the Garmin unit. Bendix/King also introduced the KFD 840 retrofit primary flight display for light piston-powered airplanes. Designed to replace the instrument six pack with a single 8.7-inch-diagonal LCD and integrated air-data attitude and heading reference system, the unit will carry a retail price of “under $20,000,” the spokesman said. Both new products will begin shipping in the second half of next year.
