In a first for an avionics installer, Duncan Aviation has certified and installed the Universal Avionics EFI-890R retrofit cockpit system in a customer Challenger 600. Part of Duncan’s so-called Glass Box Project–which seeks to pair appropriate avionics upgrade hardware with various business airplanes–the Challenger cockpit features four 8- by 9-inch LCD flight displays and a 4- by 6-inch MFD-640 multifunction display. This summer Duncan plans to add Universal’s Vision 1 synthetic-vision capability, as well as WSI datalink weather, to the STC. Price for the basic EFI-890R package in the Challenger is about $550,000. To add Vision 1 is roughly $45,000, and to add WSI datalink weather is approximately $23,000. These are “typically installed” prices, including parts, labor, hardware and certification,” a Duncan official said. “Prices can vary based on the aircraft involved.” The certification, performed at Duncan’s facility in Lincoln, Neb., follows an earlier installation of the avionics system in a Universal-owned Challenger 601-3A.
