Automatic throttle systems are now available as a $220,000 option for new Gulfstream 200s, as well a retrofit for the more than 90 Galaxy/G200s currently in service. Because the system, provided by Safe Flight Instrument of White Plains, N.Y., is designed to “maintain an optimum airspeed during approach and landing,” said Gulfstream, “pilots are freed from continuously adjusting the throttles, allowing them to concentrate on other tasks at hand.” The system also provides continuous thrust management in cruise. Retrofit installations are expected to require a two-week downtime.
