Jakarta-based Lion Air is the previously unnamed customer for a listed order for 40 Boeing 737-900ER airliners–nominally valued at more than $3 billion–that bring the carrier’s combined orders for the model to 100. It was named here Monday. “The 737 is the right plane to support our growing route structure throughout Southeast Asia,” said a Lion Air spokesman. The airline’s initial order for 30 launched the program in July 2005. It received the first 737-900ER in April and will get a total of seven in 2007. Before June 1, eight customers had ordered 169 B737-900ERs.
