Mid-Canada Mod Center (MC2) was recently awarded an STC for a new avionics suite on Bombardier Challengers. The company installed a suite of Universal Avionics components, including a four-tube EFI-640 flat-panel integrated display, MFD-640 multifunction display, Universal terrain awareness and warning system (TAWS), Dual UNS-1F flight management systems and Universal Cockpit Display (UCD). Other equipment installed included Honeywell Primus 880 weather radar and a Blue Sky Networks telephone system.
MC2 (www.midcanadamod.com) did the redesign and installation while the aircraft underwent a complete cabin refurbishment and exterior repainting. The company worked with Flying Colours of Peterborough, Ontario, Canada, which managed the mechanical and interior/exterior requirements. The avionics portion of the project involved a total replacement of the older avionics with modern, lightweight systems.
The upgrade conforms to all current and “near future navaid and regulatory changes for airspace within North America, Europe and Asia/Pacific regions,” according to a company spokesman. MC2 offers avionics sales, service, installation and integration at its Mississauga, Ontario facility. It specializes in airborne communication, cabin-entertainment systems, TCAS, EGPWS, TAWS and RVSM.
