Atlantic Aviation begins hangar expansion

Construction has begun on a $5.5 million upgrade at Atlantic Aviation’s facilities at Chicago Midway (MDW). The project includes new construction of a 20,000-sq-ft hangar, a 10,000-sq-ft combined office and shop building and a 7,000-sq-ft ground-support building. There will also be a 3,500-sq-ft addition made to an existing building for extra shop space.

The project is scheduled for completion by the end of next month. “We’re filled to capacity at Midway,” said Sue Sommers, vice president of marketing for Atlantic Aviation. “In addition to needing more room to service existing customers, we wanted to be able to offer overnight hangar service to occasional customers who face snow and ice issues. And we simply needed more space for prospective customers who want a base in Chicago.”

The new hangar will be tall enough to accommodate a Gulfstream 550. The additional shop space will house an aircraft-maintenance area and the ground support building will be used to maintain Atlantic’s fuel trucks, baggage carts and other equipment. Atlantic Aviation now has 10 locations nationwide.
