A long awaited fuel farm upgrade at Long Beach Airport (LGB), Calif., is scheduled for completion by the end of this month. The upgrade will result in a 200,000-gallon (4,700-barrel) fuel-storage facility available to the Long Beach Fuel Consortium. Glenn Ray, president of Million Air Long Beach, is a managing partner of the consortium. He said, “The facility represents a dual opportunity for the airport, the airlines and the aviation industry,” noting that airlines had been concerned about the lack of fuel available at LGB. The fuel farm is designed with all the appropriate considerations for safety, environmental compatibility and security. The entire footprint of the fuel farm is completely enclosed within a perimeter fence and the facility has a foam fire-suppressant system unique to its design, according to Ray.
