B/E Aerospace has received an STC for after-market installation of direct and indirect LED lighting in the Cessna Citation 500 series. The Citation 500 STC is the latest step in the certification of the company’s LED system. The company has already provided LED lighting for installation in more than 50 aircraft, including Boeing Business Jets, Challengers, Falcons, Gulfstreams, Merlins and Sabreliners. The first Citation 500 to have the LED lighting was provided by Atlanta-based aircraft sales and management company O’Gara Aviation. B/E’s LED system consists of reading lights and wash lighting, with the advantages over typical fluorescent lighting of a 40-percent reduction in weight, 40-percent reduction in power usage, lower maintenance costs and patented temperature-compensation circuitry to increase longevity.
