While it’s unlikely the FAA will push back this month’s deadline for the installation of ELTs in virtually all corporate jets, the agency might allow operators to file for a temporary exemption to the requirement if they can show a good-faith effort at compliance. The agency conceded it is considering exemption requests from “several” operators (filed at both the Washington and FSDO levels) who say that manufacturers are unable to supply ELTs–particularly the FAA-recommended 406-MHz units–in a timely manner.
