PrivatAir has ordered the first 787 Boeing Business Jet but has yet to decide whether to use the widebody for executive charter services, corporate shuttle operations or scheduled all-business-class flights on behalf of an airline. The Swiss group is set to receive the aircraft in 2012, by which time it will have decided on the cabin configuration and selected a completions supplier. Lufthansa Technik, which has recently unveiled its plans for VIP 787 interior designs, has worked on several PrivatAir jets.

The Geneva-based charter and management firm already operates three BBJs, a BBJ2, a newly acquired VIP 767 and a 757, as well as four Airbus Corporate Jetliners. The company operates all-business-class transatlantic scheduled services on behalf of flag carriers Lufthansa and Swiss.

According to Boeing, this first 787 BBJ order is valued at $153 million, although it is not clear whether this is for a green or completed aircraft. PrivatAir is now evaluating whether to have its aircraft powered by the General Electric GENx or Rolls-Royce Trent 1000.
