Avitat Westchester has begun an 18-month extensive facelift for its existing acility at Westchester County Airport, in White Plains, N.Y. The new facility will include a 21,000-sq-ft, two-story terminal, tenant offices, crew facilities, maintenance shops and storage facilities, as well as mprovements to the existing 23,760-sq-ft hangar. During construction, Avitat Westchester has temporarily relocated its operations to the west end of the hangar.
Mike Dolphin, president of Avitat Westchester, said, “Passengers will walk past tropical fish aquariums, listen o music playing on a baby grand piano and smell Starbucks coffee brewing in our café.” Also among the architectural features are anigre wood surfaces, translucent white and blue tile floors nd clerestory windows, atriums and custom-designed stainless-steel staircases.
According to Dolphin, neither passengers nor crewmembers should be inconvenienced during the construction. He said, “Our customers are not affected by the ngoing construction program, as we’ve just built a brand-new temporary wing at the end of the existing hangar where we will be working for the next 18 months.” But regular visitors to Avitat Westchester need to break old habits and remember to go to the north-side door of the complex, rather than the south side.
