Brisbane, Australia-based Aeropower has converted a Volvo truck into a mobile helicopter landing and maintenance facility for its fleet of MD500s, to help crews survey and maintain high-tension power cables–often in extremely remote bush areas.
The portable landing and service unit is constructed from a standard 20-foot shipping container, fitted with a 1,000-gallon fuel tank and an 1,850-gallon water reservoir and topped by a fold-out landing pad that can accommodate the helicopter’s weight. This allows safer landing and refueling while delivering fuel and maintenance closer to the Aeropower team’s operating areas, thus reducing transit time between refueling stops.
