Signature Flight Support has acquired the former PrivatAir terminal at Paris Le Bourget Airport and has broken ground on a major refurbishment of its Boston Logan International Airport (BOS) facility. In Paris, the company will begin  refurbishment project to renovate the facility, and the new terminal will replace Signature’s existing terminal as the point of entry for incoming aircraft. The current terminal will be reconfigured as a facility for based tenants. Besides the new terminal, the acquisition includes nine hangars and a large expanse of ramp area.

In Boston, Signature’s plans are part of a renegotiated 10-year lease ensuring the company will serve the airport until 2016. Terms of the lease were agreed with the airport operator, the Massachusetts Port Authority. The new terminal, including a sweeping cantilevered canopy to shield arriving passengers from the elements, will be built just west of the existing facility at BOS. Scheduled for completion in July next year, it will include a two-story, 12,000-sq-ft executive terminal and an 8,800-sq-ft multi-tenant ground-support-equipment repair shop. The passenger lounge will incorporate a 112-foot-long lobby with floor-to-ceiling windows allowing ample natural light. There will be a parking area for 35 cars, incorporating a green “garden space” as a buffer from the street traffic. Signature has operated the sole FBO at BOS since 1967.

In other Signature news, the company has announced the acquisition of the Cape Aviation Business Centre at Cape Town International Airport, South Africa. Formerly owned by business aircraft management firm National Airways, he FBO is said to offer full aircraft and passenger handling capability, including customs and immigration assistance, fuel and catering. There are three storage hangars included in the complex, Signature’s first acquisition in Africa.
