In August, Banyan Air Service celebrated a long-awaited groundbreaking ceremony for its 25,000-sq-ft terminal building with an attached 20,000-sq-ft hangar at Fort Lauderdale (Fla.) Executive Airport (FXE). Plans for the new terminal were announced last November, but construction had been delayed by a combination of airport ground issues, financing and building permits. The new construction is scheduled for completion in May.

Banyan president Don Campion said, “Although the wait has been frustrating, a new modern terminal is long overdue at FXE, the third busiest general aviation airport in the U.S.” Campion said the new construction phase is the fourth project Banyan has undertaken in partnership with its landlord, Sheltair/Holland Builders, at FXE.

The new terminal will be centered on the south side of the airport just off the main runway, a more central location than Banyan’s existing terminal. The new venue also offers more ramp space and is closer to Banyan’s existing avionics, maintenance and pilot shops. The new facility will have three computer terminals with printers, high-speed Internet access, wireless LAN, photocopiers, fax machines, multimedia equipment and an ATM. Valet parking is expected to be offered at the new facility. Overall, Banyan has more than 1 million sq ft of hangar and office space within its 85-acre aviation complex at FXE.
