Snecma of Chengdu, China (SSAMC), is expanding its repair capability and has added 11 new technicians to its engine overhaul operation. The company estimates that China will purchase at least 2,000 new aircraft equipped with at least 4,000 new engines plus spares over the course of the next 20 years. “Many of these will be CFM56 engines on which SSAMC specializes,” a company spokesman said. The company was the first CFM repair shop in China approved by the FAA and holds CAAC and DGAC Indonesia airworthiness approvals.

The company’s repair shop and testing facilities are dedicated to CFM56 engines, with a workshop of about 140,000 sq feet and a test cell of 24,000 sq ft. It employs 150 technicians and offers CFM56-3/-5B/-7 engine repair and overhaul, engine testing, quick engine change removal/ installation, fleet management support, technical assistance and engine leasing. Since 2001, Sichuan Snecma has overhauled more than 50 CFM56-3 engines and provided more than 60 missions for Mobile Engine Services throughout Asia.
