The recently merged business-aviation entity now known as Garrett/Piedmont Hawthorne/Associated officially opened its new 18,000-sq-ft, $1.2 million hangar at Virginia’s Charlottesville-Albemarle Airport (CHO) last month. The new hangar was completed on time and under budget, according to the company, adding capability to the services Piedmont Hawthorne provides at CHO.

The new hangar facility currently stores six aircraft, including a GV, Challenger, King Air 90, Citation Encore, Citation CJ2 and Baron. The facility’s general manager, John Whitmer, cited a need for hangar space in the Virginia area. He said, “We are excited about offering large-aircraft hangar services to the Charlottesville market. We’re seeing dramatic growth in the need for transient storage as owners in this area continue to upgrade their aircraft.”

Now with 41 locations in North America, Garrett/Piedmont Hawthorne/ Associated offers a full range of FBOs, maintenance, repair, overhaul, aircraft charter, sales and management and large aircraft completions. The company is backed by the Carlyle Group private equity fund and has its headquarters in Tempe, Ariz.
