Cingular wants to keep cellphone ban
Cingular, the largest wireless service provider in the U.S., has asked the FAA to maintain its ban on cellphone use aboard aircraft in flight.

Cingular, the largest wireless service provider in the U.S., has asked the FAA to maintain its ban on cellphone use aboard aircraft in flight. In a June 8 letter to the agency, the Atlanta-based company said it is concerned about the potential disturbance to passengers from “inconsiderate” phone users. “We believe there is a time and place for wireless phone conversation,” said Cingular executive v-p Paul Roth, adding “and seldom does that include the confines of an [airline] airplane in flight.” The FAA and FCC are seeking comments on a proposal to lift the ban.
