The United Nations sprays a synthetic compound on its helicopter landing sites that apparently reduces the threat of “brown-outs” in dusty conditions.

Gilbert, Ariz.-based manufacturer Soilworks describes Durasoil as an environmentally safe and biodegradable co-polymer emulsion that can be applied in a single operation, without the need for dilution, to create an instant safe landing zone. It can be used immediately after application and reworked and still maintain its effectiveness. Durasoil is also said to “eliminate” foreign object debris.
