At least a dozen unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) are to be flown at the Unmanned Systems show to be staged at the UK’s ParcAberporth aviation business park on September 7. The event will be Europe’s largest UAV flying demonstration in controlled civil airspace and should be an important benchmark for how pilotless aircraft can coexist safely with manned flights.

ParcAberporth is located at a former Royal Air Force base on the west coast of Wales. The facility is seeking to position itself as an international center of excellence for UAV research and development work.

Among the UAV developers planning to demonstrate their aircraft at the show are EADS, Thales, Elbit, Aerosonde/ Lockheed Martin/QinetiQ, Schiebel, Aurora Flight Sciences and Remote Services. The demonstration flights will be conducted under detailed regulations from the UK Civil Aviation Authority.

The ParcAberporth show is being organized with the support of the Welsh Development Agency. More information is available at www.tangentlink.com.
