BroadWare Technologies has been selected to implement a wireless video surveillance platform at Long Beach (Calif.) Airport. The new system will enable three separate Long Beach Airport security operations centers to simultaneously monitor distant sites, including secured airport areas, public parking lots and roadway tunnels.

BroadWare’s wireless digital video surveillance platform is one component in a $3 million contract awarded to Arinc. The contract specifies a single security network that combines perimeter access, fire and intrusion alarms and surveillance video. BroadWare and Arinc will deliver live and archived distributed video surveillance with Arinc’s security management network. The Arinc project, which began in May, is scheduled to be complete before year-end.

The BroadWare/Arinc installation includes more than 100 cameras within secured areas of the airport keeping track of “sterile” locations and “secure identification display areas.” Additional cameras monitor remote parking lots, the perimeter of the airport and two public tunnels leading to the airport beneath taxiways. These cameras can track someone exiting through a secure entrance, passengers breaking out of line as they board an airplane or pedestrians walking within the tunnels.
