Cessna Aircraft has selected Axxess, an Iridium-based cabin information system from AirCell, as a factory option for the Citation X, Sovereign and XLS. Axxess, introduced at the NBAA Convention in November, is a wireless broadband-ready satcom system designed for midsize to large business jets. The standard Axxess system includes two Iridium satellite communications channels for voice and narrowband data services. Two more Iridium channels are available as an option. Operators can also add an Inmarsat broadband connection (sold separately by data satcom manufacturers) on a plug-and-play basis. Axxess’ handsets include large color displays and noise-canceling technology, according to Louisville, Colo.-based AirCell. Axxess is slated to be available on the Citations starting in the third quarter.
