TAG Aviation’s application to increase weekend movements at the London-area Farnborough Airport was rejected by the local Rushmoor Borough Council. The company, which operates Farnborough under a lease agreement, wants to boost the number of movements permitted each year on weekends and holidays from 2,500 to 5,000 and has offered to phase in the increase over three years. But the council ruled that the claimed economic benefits of the increase in business aviation traffic do not outweigh local residents’ concerns about aircraft noise. TAG has indicated that it intends to appeal the decision to the UK central government.
