Landmark Aviation CEO Roger Wolfe celebrated the grand opening of the FBO and maintenance chain’s refurbished Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) facility on June 8 with David Orcutt, Bombardier Business Aircraft vice president for customer support and David Lamb, vice president and general manager of the LAX base.
Landmark LAX is an FBO and maintenance operation, with strong capability in airframe, avionics and engine and APU services. The LAX base recently earned authorized service facility status from Bombardier Business Aircraft, becoming the Canadian company’s only authorized service facility in the U.S. to service Global Expresses, Challengers and Learjets. The LAX facility also operates the only Honeywell TFE731, TPE331 and CFE738 engine test cell on the West Coast.
Landmark has refurbished the FBO lobby, spending $2.6 million to turn the facility into a flagship for the chain, showing customers what a typical Landmark FBO facility will offer. The lobby is clean and functional, with what Landmark officials say is a “postmodern” look that will appeal to visitors through its subtlety rather than overwhelming them with lavish decorations.
Before the renovations pilots had to walk down a long hall to reach the fuel desk; the new 3,600-sq-ft lobby features a customer service desk accessible immediately upon entry from the ramp or parking lot entrances. The ramp has been expanded by 10
percent and now offers five acres for aircraft parking and movement. A concierge is available to help with passenger and crew requests. The new crew lounge offers flat-screen satellite tvs, recliners and a separate quiet area. A conference room is available, as is a new VIP lounge.
On the maintenance side, Landmark mechanics are working closely with Six Sigma black belts to improve the efficiency of the engine shops with continuous-flow techniques, point-of-use stations for consumables and cross utilization and cross training of personnel. Wireless tech-nology throughout the building supports the maintenance shop’s internal communications and provides Internet access for visiting pilots. Three mobile service teams are based at Landmark LAX.
