Ruag Aerostructures and Airbus have concluded a six-year deal under which Ruag will manufacture and supply the center fuselage section as well as the flooring and side shells of the central fuselage section for the A320 Family. Signed on December 19, the contract builds on long cooperation between the two companies in which Ruag has delivered fuselage sections for more than 9,000 A320-family narrowbodies.
Ruag now manufactures more than 60 fuselage sections a month for Airbus at its plants in Oberpfaffenhofen, Germany; Eger, Hungary; and Emmen, Switzerland.
“The agreement to continue cooperation with Airbus, for one of the most successful aircraft programs in the history of aviation, secures the partnership and is a key factor in ensuring that Ruag Aerostructures continues to contribute to the success of Airbus as a reliable partner,” said Ruag Aerostructures executive vice-president Dirk Prehn.
Ruag positions itself as a specialist in the development, production and final assembly of complete fuselage sections for civilian and military aircraft. The tier 1 supplier of aircraft fuselage sections, wing components, flaps, and system modules employs about 1,500 employees at its three main facilities. Along with Airbus, customers include Boeing, Bombardier, Dassault Aviation, GE Aviation, Pilatus Aircraft, and Saab.
Ruag’s Airbus contracts include the supply of the aft fuselage, tailcone, and floor structure for the A320, along with the forward fuselage section 14A for the A330-300 and A330-900 widebodies. Its A320 supply responsibilities include all assembly parts for the last 11 meters of the fuselage and tail section, complete with all the electrics and supply lines.
Ruag also delivers the entire section 14A for the A330-300/900 in two individual subassemblies (upper and lower shell), which Airbus integrates as part of the final assembly of the complete fuselage.
