Boeing landed two deals for nineteen 777 freighters worth $6.4 billion at list prices on Monday at the Farnborough Airshow. Cargo giant DHL signed for 14 of the widebody freighters, with purchase rights for another seven—a deal worth $4.7 billion at list prices. The order is part of DHL’s renewal of its long-haul fleet.

Qatar Airways placed an order for five 777 freighters, worth a combined $1.7 billion at list prices, for its growing cargo division. These twinjets will replace three leased Airbus A330-200F freighters at Qatar. The A330 freighter has more limited range and capacity versus the 777, making the Boeing freighter a better option, said Akbar al Baker, head of the Persian Gulf carrier.

According to al Baker, Qatar is tripling its cargo handling capacity at its freight hub at Hamad International Airport in Doha. Qatar Airways Cargo currently operates 23 widebody freighters, a segment dominated by Boeing. It took delivery of its first 747-8F freighter in 2017.

Boeing has recorded orders for 65 widebody freighters this year and more than 180 since early 2014. That is 98 percent of all widebody cargo aircraft sales over the past nearly five years, according to the Seattle-based company. It has delivered 140 widebody freighters during that period, a 92 percent market share.
