CFM Brings Fat Order Book to Farnborough
Production rates have reached historic highs.

CFM’s 2018 sales ledger shows orders for 1,371 engines as of the end of June, including 1,306 examples of the Leap turbofan. On July 13 celebrating the ten-year anniversary of the Leap program’s launch, the company (Outdoor Exhibit 22) has collected orders and commitments for 15,450 of the narrowbody workhorses valued at more than $220 billion (£167 billion).

Meanwhile, the company expects to deliver more than 2,100 CFM56s and Leap engines this year. This month, the company will for the first time build more Leaps than CFM56s, and plans call for Leap production rates to nearly double by 2020, to 2,000 engines annually. CFM continues to recover from a four- to five-week delivery delay mainly generated by irregularities in casting and forgings delivered by suppliers.

“We are very pleased by what a strong year 2018 has been so far in terms of orders,” said CFM chief executive Gael Meheust. “On the production side, we are closing the delivery gap with Airbus and Boeing by producing at a recovery rate to get everything back on track this year."
