KLM Academy Chooses APS for Upset Prevention Training
Loss of control in flight represents the most severe hull loss causal factor in commercial aviation worldwide over the past 10 years.

The KLM flight academy has chosen Mesa, Ariz.-based Aviation Performance Solutions (APS) European subsidiary APS Europe to provide upset prevention and recovery training (UPRT) to the instructors the airline will use to train pilots in KLM’s ab initio airline transport program. Both organizations believe a commitment to UPRT sends a clear signal to the traveling public that they take training to prevent loss of control in flight (LOC-I) seriously.

In a report issued by Boeing in August 2014, the Commercial Aviation Safety Team’s statistical research identifies LOC-I as the most severe hull loss causal factor in commercial aviation worldwide over the past 10 years, resulting in the most crash-related fatalities from 2004 through 2013. The European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) said mitigating LOC-I is one of the agency’s highest priorities as EASA accelerates related rulemaking.
