Los Angeles-based Air Lease Corporation (ALC) has placed a new firm order for 25 Airbus A350XWBs and converted options on 14 A321neos, the European manufacturer announced on Monday. The A350 contract calls for deliveries of 20 A350-900s and five A350-1000s and raises the total backlog for the new composite-bodied airliner to 617. ALC, which also holds options for five more A350-1000s, becomes the 35th customer for the XWB series.  

ALC’s simultaneous firm purchase order for 14 A321neo follows an agreement announced at the 2012 Farnborough International airshow covering 36 A320neo-family jets plus options on another 14. The latest business from ALC raises the lessor’s order total for the A320neo family to 50, including 34 A321neos. ALC hasn’t yet announced its engine choice.

Separately, Turkish Airlines signed a firm order for two more A330-300s and options on another three, Airbus announced on Monday. Now holding firm orders for 38 of the type, Turkish plans to deploy the airplanes on medium- and long-haul routes from its Istanbul hub. Turkish Airlines placed its first order with Airbus in 1984, and today it operates 104 Airbus jets.
