Brazil’s Gol Linhas Aereas Inteligentes announced an order for 60 Boeing 737 Max airliners today. According to Boeing, the deal is worth approximately $6 billion and is the largest single aircraft order from a single carrier in South America’s air transport history. The Sao Paolo-based carrier has not disclosed the planned delivery schedule for the narrowbodies, which are powered by CFM International’s Leap-1B engines. Total firm orders for the 737 Max now stand at 724 aircraft.

Meanwhile, Philippines Airlines has ordered 10 more Airbus A330-300 widebodies, following on from an August contract covering 10 A330s and 44 A321s. The new order calls for the high-gross-weight (240 metric tons) version of the A330, which will provide greater range to cover nonstop services from Manila to any destination in the Asia-Pacific region, as well as to the Middle East and, in the opposite direction, to Honolulu, Hawaii. At list prices, the October 2 contract is worth $2.3 billion.
