Gregory Polek has spent his entire career in aviation journalism with AIN, starting as a proofreader and assistant to then-managing editor Mary Mahoney in 1995 after serving an internship with&nbsp;New Jersey Monthly&nbsp;magazine and completing his B.A. degree in English/Writing at New Jersey’s William Paterson College. By 1997 Polek accepted a position as an associate editor, covering the regional airline beat for&nbsp;Aviation International News&nbsp;in place of retiring industry veteran Don Anderson. The assignment took Polek across North America and Europe to profile regional airlines varying in size and mission from the likes of floatplane operators Kenmore Air and Chalk’s Ocean Airways to regional jet operators such as SkyWest and American Eagle. Today, in his dual role as Air Transport Editor and International Airshow Editor, Polek writes, edits, and manages AIN’s commercial aviation content while overseeing each of the company’s daily international air show publications in Paris, Farnborough, Singapore, and Dubai. Most recently Polek has assumed oversight of daily coverage of the Helicopter Association International’s annual Heli-Expo convention.

Korean Air celebrated the delivery of its first Engine Alliance GP7200-powered Airbus A380 at a ceremony at Airbus’s headquarters in Toulouse, France.&nbsp;<a href="?q=node/29516">Korean Air</a> has ordered a total of 10 A380s and expects to start scheduled operations next month.
Korean Air plans to first operate the A380 from its Seoul hub to various destinations in Asia, followed by non-stop services to North America and Europe. The airline has specified an extra-spacious layout for its A380 fleet, with accommodation for 407 passengers in three classes. Special features on board the aircraft include the world’s first-ever duty free showcase area and an onboard bar and lounge on the upper deck for premium passengers.
The sixth airline to take delivery of an A380, Korean Air also becomes the first Asian carrier to operate the GP7200 engine. Along with Korean Air, Emirates and Air France operate GP7200-powered A380 aircraft. Etihad and Air Austral have also selected GP7200 engines for their A380 fleets. Twenty GP7200-powered A380s now operate worldwide and another 104 on order await delivery.
The remaining A380 operators, including Singapore Airlines, Qantas and Lufthansa, operate Rolls-Royce Trent 900s.
