A supply-chain interruption involving Japanese engine parts supplier IHI will force Embraer to delay delivery of at least six E190s to Indianapolis-based Republic Airways. The six E190s on firm order, scheduled for delivery in the third and fourth quarters of 2011, will arrive some two months late, Republic CEO Bryan Bedford said during a Tuesday conference call. Embraer now plans to spread the delivery of those aircraft through the first quarter of next year. 

Bedford said he expected to consult with Embraer this week on the delay, which he attributed to an interruption of engine electronics deliveries due to the earthquake in Japan. GE, maker of the CF34-10E turbofans in the E190, identified the Japanese supplier, whose two engine works factories based in the east coast city of Soma suffered earthquake damages and related losses worth and estimated 10.5 billion yen ($131 million). IHI serves as a revenue-sharing participant in the CF34 engine program and produces low-pressure turbine rotating components and module assemblies along with compressor airfoils, as well as the mid-fan shaft for the CF34-10E.
