The FAA issued operational certification for the Dassault Falcon 7X enhanced vision system (EVS), which will allow pilots who have completed the required training to receive operational credit for lower IFR approaches. The 7X EVS allows pilots to descend as low as 100 feet above threshold elevation, equivalent to Category II minimums, according to Dassault Falcon. This capability depends on pilots’ ability to use the EVS “to detect and identify the visual references for the intended runway to continue the approach with vertical guidance to 100 feet above touchdown-zone elevation,” according to the FAA. The EVS image is shown on the 7X’s Rockwell Collins head-up display and Honeywell Primus Epic-based EASy flight deck displays and includes a two-mode setting. Pilots can select an approach-optimized setting that enhances approach and runway lights or a general-purpose setting.
