Boeing has begun accepting delivery of major structural parts again for the 787 and plans to begin joining all the sections of the 23rd Dreamliner next Monday. The company had suspended delivery of incomplete sections for the 23rd and 24th Dreamliners in late April to help the suppliers cope with parts shortages and other “difficulties.”

A Boeing spokesperson told AIN that the company received the aft section for the 23rd airplane on Sunday from Charleston and the forward section last night from Spirit Aerosystems in Wichita. “The sections were delivered in the condition of assembly we agreed to with our partners,” said the spokesperson, adding that the major parts for the 24th airplane “will be coming soon.”

“We have a few things but none of the big stuff like fuselage sections or the like,” she said.  

The delivery of the aft section for S/N 23 actually preceded the timeline Boeing set to resume receiving parts. Originally the company said it would place a hold on deliveries for 24 manufacturing days. Today marks the 23rd day since the start of the moratorium. 

Work continued in Everett on the four airplanes in final assembly during the period in which the company suspended parts deliveries for the two airplanes.
