Following the mandatory 60-day consultation period, Nav Canada was planning to go ahead with a 6.9-percent average increase to its air navigation service charges. The increase, according to the agency, is necessary for Nav Canada to deal with the continued downturn in air traffic. The new charges are effective as of August 1, with annual and quarterly charges to be implemented on March 1 next year. The increase comes after years of cost reductions at Nav Canada.
