Airbus announced at last month’s NBAA show the World Ranger, a corporate version of the four-engine A340-200. “It is important to note this is not an ACJ2 but rather an entirely different aircraft based on the A340 with a range in excess of 8,000 nautical miles,” said Richard Gaona, Airbus’ v-p corporate jetliner. “It is a new and different market and we evaluated our fleet and determined the A340 was right for the job.” Range of the Airbus Corporate Jetliner (ACJ) is approximately 6,000 nm. In addition to the added range, the A340 is 84 ft longer (at 195 ft) and 5.5 ft wider (at 18.5 ft) than the ACJ. Airbus already has nine corporate versions of the A340 in service, though they were developed “on demand” for customers. Now the European manufacturer will actively market the World Ranger, in particular to owners of aging Boeing 747 VIP aircraft.
