Messier-Dowty, here at Le Bourget in Hall 2 Stand D14, is highlighting a wide variety of landing gear technology for a range of commercial and military aircraft, including the Boeing 787 Dreamliner, the Sukhoi Russian Regional Jet and the Airbus A340-500/600, all new displays at the Paris Air Show.

Boeing’s selection of Messier-Dowty for its Boeing 787 Dreamliner is the Safran subsidiary’s first prime contract with the U.S. aircraft manufacturer for a commercial aircraft and includes the design, development, testing and manufacture of the main nose and landing gear. The structure’s main baseline arrangement is a four-wheel truck/tripod concept with oleopneumatic shock struts and dual folding and rolling braces. Its nose landing gear arrangement is a forward retracting cantilever gear with a punch-pull steering concept.

Messier-Dowty’s contract to supply the landing gear for Sukhoi’s Russian Regional Jet (RRJ) marks the French company’s entry into the larger regional jet market. The RRJ offers an optional four-wheel bogie main gear for enhanced landing capabilities on uneven runways, as well as the standard two-wheel main gear design. To optimize weight and allow for a lighter airframe structure, the RRJ’s landing gear reflects an architecture more commonly found on larger commercial aircraft.

Also newly on display, the Airbus A340-500/600 Center Line Gear is a unique four-wheel bogie design carrying more than 2.5 times the load of the original A340 landing gear. Among the other equipment for Airbus on display here is the 15-foot 9-inch-tall A380 nosegear and the integrated system for the Airbus Military A400M airlifter’s main landing gear.
